Happy BOOK Birthday! Let’s talk about it…

Alexis: Why did you give Leah a career as a high school teacher? What subject does she teach?

Becky: The heroine of Let It Be Me, Leah, was a math prodigy as a child. She was so extraordinarily gifted that, at the age of eighteen, she was offered a scholarship to Princeton to pursue her PhD. It was a dream come true for her ... that she had to turn down because her mother signed over custody of her younger brother to her. Dylan was just seven at the time and raising him became the most important priority in her life.

In order to support herself and her brother, Leah took a job as a middle school math teacher. Later, when Dylan started veering down the wrong path, she moved him to the town of Misty River (where my series is set) and accepted a position teaching the high school's most advanced math students.

Alexis: What draws Sebastian and Leah to each other?

Becky: Emotionally, Sebastian and Leah are drawn together because they're both very intelligent, high-achieving, straight-forward, hardworking, and independent.

Plot-wise, Sebastian and Leah are drawn together when Leah receives DNA results indicating that her parents are not biologically related to her, as she'd always believed them to be. Because Sebastian is a pediatric heart surgeon, he's able to help her navigate the world of hospital records when she begins her search into the secrets surrounding her birth.

Alexis: Why is Leah the one woman who Sebastian wants but cannot have?

Becky: Sebastian is attracted to Leah from the moment they meet. But he can't have her because he soon finds out that she's the woman his best friend, Ben, set his heart on years before. Ben has been nothing but loyal and supportive of Sebastian since childhood. Sebastian would never betray him.

Alexis: How does Sebastian’s past as a foster kid affect his relationships today?

Becky: Sebastian spent the bulk of his childhood in foster care. To this day, he struggles to trust. He allows very few people into his heart. He's afraid of loving and then having those he loves taken from him the way that his mother was taken.

Alexis: What are the themes of this story?

Becky: The theme of Let It Be Me is God's sovereignty. I really enjoyed exploring that topic as it relates to family bonds and the events of our lives ... both joyous and heartbreaking. At the end of the day, God is sovereign over all. Which is just as it should be. I truly hope that this story will bless and inspire readers.

I've been a fan of hers since reading the first book that she wrote for the Christan book market. It is an honor to serve on the launch team for her new novel, Falling for You.

My Review of Falling for You: 

If there were a song perfectly suited for this story, it would be “After All” by Peter Cetera and Cher because the character arc and storyline resemble the message in that song and is reminiscent of real-life stories about second chance romance. 

Becky Wade's new novel, Falling for You, is a creative masterpiece that focuses on two main characters: Willow Bradford and Corbin Stewart.

Willow, a model known for her breathtaking beauty, is taking a break to work as the innkeeper at her family’s small-town bed-and-breakfast.

She is enjoying the time in her hometown of Merryweather, Washington until something or rather someone comes along to interrupt her perfect peace. His name is Corbin and he’s not on the best terms with Willow nor is she with him.

As pages turn, the reader learns the backstory between Willow and Corbin. We learn that they used to be lovers destined for the altar. However, their plans for happily ever after were interrupted by one phone call, a misunderstood confession from Willow and impulsive reaction from Corbin that broke their relationship and set them apart for years.

But Corbin’s niece, who is an ardent fan of Willow, serves as the catalyst to make Willow and Corbin work together on solving a family mystery. As the three of them play detective, matters of the heart become involved, leading Willow and Corbin to figure out where they went wrong.

This story is filled with intrigue, faith, hope, and romance. As a reader, I couldn’t stop turning the pages until I reached “the end”. As a writer, I applaud Becky Wade for her masterful storytelling. She writes beautifully and tells her characters’ stories in a way that draws the reader in and makes them care about what happens in their fictional story world.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who needs a second chance romance in real-life or just enjoys reading a good story that will make you laugh with hilarious dialogue and smile as you share sweet moments with the characters.

In a story that’s reminiscent of “The Bodyguard” movie starring Whitney Houston (the star) and Kevin Costner (the bodyguard), seasoned author Becky Wade does not disappoint.

Becky’s new novel, Her One and Only, is the (fictional) story about NFL superstar Gray Fowler and tough-as-nails former Marine Dru Porter.

Gray is in danger because a crazed fan wants to kill him. Dru is assigned to be his “executive protection agent” (she does not being called a bodyguard) and from the start, Gray is doubtful. He’s hesitant to believe that a woman half his size can protect his life. At the same time, he’s caught off guard by her beauty and intrigued by her wit. As the story progresses, he finds himself falling in love with this woman but Dru isn’t falling for him because she’s still reeling from a painful past that almost cost her career.

Despite her guard which is raised high, Gray’s making quite the impression on Dru’s heart and no matter how hard she tries to fight his charismatic pull, she eventually finds herself being drawn to him. Meanwhile, she’s busy posing as his girlfriend to keep him safe. It’s the only way that she can maintain her low profile as his executive protection agent and Gray is having a ball with it. He teases her and makes up stories about how they met to share with his friends. But his jovial act is rained on when the plot takes a turn for the worse—while out to dinner with Dru and friends, his stalker takes a shot at him. The stalker, whose identity is not yet revealed to the reader, fires bullets through the restaurant window, aiming for Gray. Dru tackles Gray to the ground and that’s when the serious work of finding Gray’s killer and the danger involved, becomes more intense and draws the reader’s nose deeper into the book.

The author does a fabulous job of keeping the reader’s attention as she builds tension with each scene in the story. She knows how to captivate the reader’s attention with an action-packed, curiosity-raising prologue that makes the reader dive into the story headfirst. The plot thickens from chapter to chapter, the dialogue is fresh and engaging, the characters are believable and likable. The entire book is an intriguing love story packed with plot twists, danger and sweet moments that make it like no other.

I’d like to congratulate Becky Wade for writing a story that captivated me as the reader and made me envision the entire story as an award-winning movie. Let’s hope that’s foreshadowing to Hollywood making “Her One and Only” into a box office hit.

I’d recommend this book to anyone and everyone who loves a good story packed with intrigue, romance and plot twists. “Her One and Only” is a gem.

Review of Becky Wade's book, A Love Like Ours:

Fans of Wade’s debut novel, My Stubborn Heart, will find many similarities in A Love Like Ours, in which a vivacious, eternally-optimistic heroine meets a wounded, withdrawn hero, and proves to be the one person who can coax him back to life (and, since this is Christian fiction, back to God). But Lyndie and Jake are their own unique characters, and had such amazing depths from the very first page that I fell instantly in love with them. By the end of the prologue, I felt like I was reading about my two best friends.

The characters are definitely the heart and soul of this book, and there were so many wonderful personalities, both old and new, that I could spend this entire review just talking about them! Jake is a veteran suffering from PTSD, and I love that Wade doesn’t just slap a band-aid on that, or try to cover it up with some “all you need is Jesus” cliché. Instead, she keeps her characters firmly grounded in the real world, and while she does set Jake on the right road eventually, nothing is tied up with a neat little bow. The reality of Jake’s condition was as refreshing as it was heartbreaking, and definitely made him a hero to love.”

Jake turned up the collar of his brown corduroy hunting jacket, then rested his forearms on the top rail of the wooden fence that enclosed the thirty-acre pasture. His careful attention catalogued numerous things about the colt within, only a handful of them visual. Call it horse sense. Or instinct. Jake understood things about these animals that most people didn’t.

A few days ago he’d decided to back off training this particular colt, Desert Willow, and give him more time to recover fully from his arthroscopic knee surgery. Willow liked to complain about his sore knee, which meant Jake needed to freshen him longer before Willow would be ready to resume training. Five more days maybe—

Jake heard the crunch of a twig breaking and flinched at the unexpected noise, then cursed himself for flinching. He could already tell that the sound had been made by nothing but footsteps.

Turning, he squinted beneath the brim of his black Stetson and tried to make out who was coming toward him. A small woman with long, wavy blond hair. She wasn’t on the barn staff; that he knew. He angled toward her more fully.

And then, very slowly, recognition began to slide over him. The hair on his arms rose.

It couldn’t be her. Not after all this time. And yet the rational part of his brain understood that it could be. He knew she’d moved back to Holley. His mom had been nagging him to see her ever since, but he’d wanted no part of that, no part of her.

Yet here she was.

He went to stone, inside and out. Only his heart kept moving, knocking inside his chest, hard and sure. He didn’t want her to look at him.

He was ugly. And she was beautiful.

He’d already lived the life and died the death of the boy she’d known. She wouldn’t recognize him now, same as he no longer recognized himself.

She wore jeans tucked into black riding boots. A white shirt under a pale green sweater that hung open down to her hips. Big hoop earrings. Her scarf, which had a lot of green, pink, white, and gray on it, didn’t have ends. It just rested in a loop around her neck.

She no longer looked like a Texan. She looked like a Californian to him now.

She came to a stop a few feet away and stuck her hands into the back pockets of her jeans.

He couldn’t speak, and she had the grace not to say anything trite. She only took him in, her head tilted slightly, a half smile on her face, softness in her gaze.

He hadn’t felt any emotion forcefully since his accident. Yet the sight of her caused bitterness to blaze through him, true and clean. You left me behind, he wanted to accuse. You. Left. Me.

It surprised him, the anger turning in his gut like a blade. She’d been a kid back then. Her father had gotten a better job in California, and so they’d moved. It hadn’t been Lyndie’s fault. But that’s not what he was feeling, standing here all these years later. He was feeling a betrayal so strong it nearly took his breath.

“Jake,” she said at last, her smile growing.

He dipped his chin. “Lyndie.”
