My Review of the CSB Teen Study Bible
I like how there is a wraparound cover over the hard cover. This material has the name of this Bible written in a lime color and bold, bulky font. I think the cover designer had teens in mind as they created these details and put these design elements together. It’s definitely youth-friendly in its presentation.
The words “Asking & Answering Questions about God’s Word” are written in smaller font beneath the name of this Bible on the front. I find this feature helpful. It is a way to draw teens who have questions about the Bible, Christianity and God. This feature will help the target audience know that they can receive answers to their questions if they open this Bible and read it with the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
The wraparound cover has more intriguing information on the backside of this Bible. I like how it features this line at the top of the summary: “Real Questions. Real Answers. Real Faith.” Again, the publisher knows how to reach teens who are thirsty for truth that can only be found within the pages of this beautiful book.
When I opened this book, the first thing I noticed was the bright lime color that coats the first two pages. The material feels smooth to touch. And these colors complement the lime colors in the text on the front cover and back cover of the wraparound material. Well done! The only issue is that sunglasses might be needed because the lime color on those two interior pages is so bright!
As I turned the next few pages, I noticed the dedication page that’s in most Bibles. The Table of Contents was neatly outlined but the font was a bit too small for me. However, I do appreciate how the page that follows the Table of Contents, talks about how the publisher utilized “Optimal Type” for the words in this Bible. They wrote, “The Bible is the most important book ever written, and every element of its design should enhance the reading experience. Optimal Type is a new typeface designed to improve readability, making Scripture more approachable, clear, and engaging for all readers.” As I continued turning the pages of this Bible, I found this to be true.
The next two pages contain information that shows the reader how to use this Bible. These two pages are set to a dark gray background and have a few snapshots of the pages within as well as labels over each snapshot that point out interior features such as: articles, devotionals, maps, charts and infographics. I found this to be intriguing. It made me want to keep reading and find all these features.
The next 10 or more pages are purely instructional, giving the reader more information about what to expect as they read this Bible. It also teaches the reader to understand and interpret the Bible well as they turn the pages of this sacred book. A few pages are dedicated to introducing the reader to the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) which is the translation provided from Genesis (the first book) to Revelation (the final book) in this Bible. I found that to be educational.
After a brief note about commonly used abbreviations in this Bible, the reader can begin their Bible reading journey starting with the first book of The Old Testament (Genesis). But before this journey begins, there are two pages provided that focus on providing a proper introduction to Genesis. I thought that was helpful.
As I scanned the pages of this Bible, I was in awe as I saw all of the helpful extra features that were outlined on the first several pages of this Bible: articles, devotionals, maps, charts, infographics and more are spread throughout the pages of this Bible. After the final book (Revelation) that is in The New Testament, there are a few more features to help the reader: CSB Concordance, CSB Dictionary and about eight colorful maps on glossy pages. These maps show the reader where the stories in this Bible were set in real life many centuries ago, reminding the readers that the Bible is not a work of fiction; the characters were real people who lived and walked on this Earth.
Overall, I think this Bible was produced very well and that the content is truly comprehensive. It is presented perfectly in a way that will touch the heart of teens.
