Stories of Love: Hart of Noel (novella)

Today, we're featuring a Christmas story by my author friend Chautona Havig. Her novella is called "Hart of Noel" featured in the holiday story collection,
The Heart of Christmas.

~*~
Book Blurb for "
Hart of Noel" (novella) by Chautona Havig:

Noel: where cookies and ornaments collide.

Books and cookies—a match made in heaven?

Not hardly. Josh Hart just wants his fledgling bookstore to have a chance, and with every car in the tiny town of Noel parking in front of his store, you'd think he had a good one.

Again, not hardly.

They're all taking up his prime parking to get into Honey Pott's Bakery. Josh is certain if Honey would quit parking her own over-sized SUV right smack-dab in front of his door, maybe people could see the store.

Enter Milton Coleridge and his trusty parrotlet, Atticus (not Finch). He loves the store, but he has bad news for Josh. Without some major changes, Noel's first bookstore may be its last.

Summer Stories: A (wildly) Wonderful Wedding by Krista Phillips

Interview with Krista Phillips about A (wildly) Wonderful Wedding:

Alexis: What inspired you to write this story?

Krista: I was having a conversation with friends about weddings, marriages, and boyfriends. One of us was single but dating and some were giving advice not to rush, take your time and I was like, well, I agree with that. But at the same time, I had only seen my future husband three times before he proposed, we got married four months later and we had met online. We have been married for almost 19 years now. So going quick isn’t always a bad thing. The whole conversation sparked a story in my head for these characters that were already tip-toeing around in there, and the rest is history!

Alexis: Tell us about your story’s heroine Danielle. What’s she like?

Krista: Danielle has some rough edges. She was raised in a super strict, legalistic household and had done some serious rebelling as a teenager that almost killed her. She came to Jesus in college, but still struggles as old habits aren’t easy to break, but is also working on forgiving her parents and the boy who broke her heart five years ago.

Alexis: Tell us about your story’s hero Drake. What’s he like?

Krista: Drake is a pretty easy-going guy. He co-owns an audio-visual company with his best friend. His work consumes him much of the time. He got serious about his faith a few years ago and has one pretty big regret in life—how he left his fiancĂ©e in the dust—via text message five years ago. What a jerk he’d been!

Alexis: Five years prior to the start of this story, Danielle and Drake were a hot item. What went wrong?

Krista: I’m not sure anything really went “wrong” per say. Drake got cold feet and decided that he wasn’t quite ready for marriage. But he dumped Danielle in a pretty jerk-ish way. But in hindsight, they weren’t ready for marriage, and both had some serious growing up to do.

Alexis:
Now that Danielle and Drake are reunited (five years later, at the start of your story) as the maid of honor and best man at their best friend’s upcoming nuptials, how do they feel?

Krista: They are still pretty steamed at each other—at first.

Alexis: Why do Drake and Danielle believe that they have to team up to prevent their best friends’ wedding?

Krista: Drake isn’t convinced at first, but Danielle wants to prevent her friend from making the same mistake she almost made five years ago.

Alexis:
Is there a real-life lesson that you hope to teach your readers in this fiction story? Explain.

Krista: Honestly, when I write my stories, I don’t think necessarily in “lessons” my readers will learn. I believe God can use stories to encourage us in our walk with Him, and I hope that same thing for this book. That will look different for each person, as a story can impact people differently. I guess if I had to give a specific answer, I’d say that readers will see that no one is beyond God’s grace, that God can use our fumbling mistakes for good, and that just because God calls us to something doesn’t mean he calls everyone around you to the same thing.

Alexis: What role does the faith of your main characters play in this story?

Krista: Both Drake and Danielle are fairly new to their faith after having rekindled their love for Jesus a few years prior. Their new faith allows them to see how God has used the disaster five years ago to bring Him glory.

Alexis: How does your viewpoint as a woman of faith affect your storytelling?

Krista: I love Jesus. Pretty simple as that. I aim to write my stories to bring him glory, just as I aim to do so in all facets of my life to do that, whether it is my day job or simply going to the grocery store and being kind to those around me and showing them Jesus’ love. I think if you are a born-again believer, that can’t help but influence our storytelling, as we are a “new creation” in Christ and don’t think as we did before, therefore don’t tell stories as we did before. That looks different for everyone.

Alexis:
If you could grab coffee with Danielle, what would you order and what would you as a married woman advise her as she considers giving Drake a second chance?

Krista: Summer = something strawberry, non-coffee and cold. Winter= hot chocolate! My advice? I’d tell her that forgiveness is fabulous, and that they are both two new people now since they’ve found Christ. Take it slow, date, get to know the new Drake, and see where God takes you.

Alexis: Thanks for the interview, Krista! Do you have any closing comments?

Krista: Thanks for hosting A (wildly) Wonderful Wedding that is in the Once Upon a Laugh box set! I really appreciate it!

Her friend is marrying the best friend of her ex-fiancĂ©? She has to do something to help her friend see that this hasty wedding is a mistake. But she can’t do it alone.

Cozy Christmas Reads: Allie's story

Excerpt from Chapter 1 of "A Brilliant Christmas" by Allie Pleiter

I take a deep, expectant breath as I wander into my building's upstairs lobby. It's a quiet old room—full of big windows, overstuffed chairs, and afternoon sunshine. I imagine there was a time when this was called a "parlor" back in the day when a seventeen-story building marveled as a "skyscraper."
Warm sunshine greets me, but the promising solace and silence is broken by the presence of a large—no huge—green lizard.
What? Who left their miniature dragon out in the sun?
It's been one of those days. Actually, it's been one of those weeks, and I wanted some peaceful time to sit and knit in my favorite hiding spot. "Now there's something you don't see every day," I quip, mostly to hide my annoyance.
"A sunny day in Chicago in December?" a deep voice with a British accent calls from behind the high-backed chair that is usually my favorite perch. "It's bloody arctic out there."
"Actually, I was talking about your lizard," I reply. "And we have lots of sunny winter days in Chicago." I walk farther into the room as a pair of jeans and black boots—both looking expensively distressed—come into view. "You know he's illegal, don't you?” I advise. Trust me, if pets were permitted in this building, I'd have adopted a herd of cats by now.
He leans around the chair back to look at me. I've never seen blue-black eyes like that before. They're striking. Stormy and intense under that mop of tousled black hair. There's a carefully calculated wildness to this guy's appearance that makes me wonder if the lizard is a beloved pet, or just the perfect shock-value accessory.
He reaches for the big green beast with the blatant affection my grandmother shows her cats. Definitely pet. Weird pet, but beloved. Still illegal, either way.
"Marilyn has a special dispensation."
The hundred-dollar word makes me laugh. "I thought only the Pope could give dispensations."
"Well, evidently the maintenance man can as well, provided you plunk down an obscenely large pet deposit."
Lou? Our super has all the compassion of a red-light camera. That must have been a hefty sum. "Marilyn, huh? She like the sun?"
"It's a must-have for iguanas. They get sick if you don't give them enough. That wasn't much of a challenge in L.A., but here..." he scoffs.
I sit down in the other high-back chair. The pair of chairs face the set of deliciously big windows that make this room the haven I often seek. It's the tenth floor, so the height helps me to remember the rat race down on the street isn't all there is to life. When you've got a job that's a one-hundred-percent uphill battle, you've got to do a little "mood maintenance." A lot, actually. Usually, an hour of quiet—maybe even prayerful—knitting in this sunny space is enough to recharge my batteries. I came up here for "Be Still My Soul," and wound up with "Animal Planet." Still, friendliness counts for something so I ask, "You're new here?"
"An extended stay."
Not "spending the holidays," but "an extended stay." There's just enough edge to his words to tell me there's a story there, but he doesn't elaborate.
Do iguanas bite? I can't remember, so I chance it and extend my hand anyway. "I'm Zoe."
He starts to extend a hand—one with a really interesting silver ring, then freezes mid-gesture with a look of alarm on his face. "Zoe what?"
Do British introductions require last names? "Zoe Walters," I reply slowly, wondering just how bad it would look to retract my hand.
"Oh," he gulps, eyes wide, "you're her." The hand that ought to be shaking mine runs through his hair, while Marilyn's big froggish eyes roll to me with such a snide expression that I brace for dragon smoke to shoot from her nostrils.
"I'm who?" I ask, stunned by his reaction.
"From the thing," he says, waving his hand, "at the museum. The class."
Almost everyone in the building knows I run The Brick House, a neighborhood arts program a few blocks away. I know, because they all wonder how I can afford to live here on a not-for-profit salary, and most of them aren't particularly subtle about how they ask. Grandma—the one with the cats—helps my sister and I hold down the cost of our apartment here. Not that it's any of their business.
Nor is it Mister Lizard Guy's, who still hasn't told me his name or why mine is such cause for alarm.
Oh.
Oh, you've got to be kidding me.
I don't know why I didn't figure it out immediately, except for the fact that I never in a thousand years dreamed Nigel Langdon would be living in my building. I pictured Nigel Langdon a whole lot different than how he actually looks.
Things just got really interesting.
"You're Nigel Langdon?" Oops, probably shouldn't have asked that with quite the air of surprise I just did. One ought to treat the famous television animator recently down on his luck with a bit more class than a shocked American question mark.
"Most people recognize me." He flops back against the chair. "Or did.”

Blurb for Allie's story, A Brilliant Christmas (included in the book  "I'll Be Home For Christmas: Four Inspirational Holiday Novellas"):

Zoe Walters pours her heart and soul into the community arts center she runs. Her kids could benefit so much from the brilliant talents of animator Nigel Langdon—if he weren’t such a legendary grump.

The next six weeks of his artist-in-residency look like they’ll ruin Zoe’s Christmas for sure. And certainly, things get off to a rocky start until Zoe discovers the great big heart—and the deep hurt—Nigel’s been hiding under that crusty exterior. It turns out Nigel can see through to Zoe’s deepest wounds as well.

When the arts center is threatened, Nigel and Zoe come together not only to save the organization, but to discover a love and the brilliant Christmas no one ever expected.

Even though each of the stories in this collection is standalone (which go with each author’s separate book series), the collection is delightful and fun. Filled with hope, family, friendships, and some laughter, I’ll Be Home for Christmas embodies what Christmas should look like. It’s never about the gifts under the tree but the relationships around the table. ~Review written by Suzanne Waltner on Amazon.

Fall into Love: Laura V. Hilton's story

Freefall Romance
A Fall into Love story by Laura V. Hilton

When Alexis asked for blog posts about falling in love with your spouse, I thought that she meant for stories about a slow fall, like a leave gently tumbling to the ground, caught in a gentle breeze, and taking a leisurely journey. I almost didn’t ask for a featured spot because if that’s what she had in mind, I didn’t qualify.

A slow leisurely fall was not the case for me. It was more of a freefall, terrifyingly fast, but oh-so-right. It was a brisk wind that ripped me from the tree branch I was clinging to, and a whirlwind ride—one where you have no control over anything. All you can do is hold on.

It was August 11. I had just returned to my apartment in Springfield, Missouri, from a visit with my mom in Arkansas. I was tired. And I was not going out. Not. For. Anything. I planned to curl up with a book and just breathe. Then the phone rings. It was my friend Greg. He said he was having a backyard Bible Study and would I like to come?

Um, no. Not really. Thanks. I didn’t say that. I mumbled something about being tired and staying home.

“But we need you there,” he said.

Right. Because I have an opinion about stuff when everyone else just sits and stares at the Bible. But I didn’t want to lead Greg’s Bible study. Sigh.

“Who’s going to be there?” I asked because I could argue that if certain people were there they certainly didn’t need me.

He rattles off a list of names. Then says, Steve.

Steve? Sure, I knew Steves. I knew a lot of Steves. But for some reason, I asked, "Steve who?"

“Hilton. He just got out of the Navy.”

A new guy. Something inside me jumps. “I’ll be there.” I shower, change clothes, and drive to Greg’s house.

Steve and Greg are playing Bible Opoly in the living room when I arrive. They tell me to go on out to the backyard while they put the game up. I do. Greg’s house is dark, dim lights, dark colors. When they get outside, I get my first good look at Steve.

My first thought was, “That’s the guy I’m going to marry.”

My second was “Don’t be silly. You don’t even know him.”

But still. My heart recognized him. Steve was just as impressed with me. We talked after Bible study. We went to McDonald's afterward and talked more. And then every single night after work we spend time together. Not dating. Just talking. Getting to know each other. Hanging out. Becoming best friends, because we were already both positive this was right.

By October we were engaged and planning our wedding.

On December 19 we married—four months after we met.

I had friends since who were shocked by our whirlwind romance. That stuff doesn’t happen in real life. Yes, it does. And a fast romance is what I know. It was different from the guy I dated two years. Even when dating him, I knew he wasn’t the one I was going to marry. And he wasn’t. But sometimes, God brings someone in your life and you just know. Things take off. And like a very windy day that rips leaves off trees and take them on a wild ride, you end up falling in love that way.

A Prelude to Christmas: Jenna Victoria's story and personal essay

Welcome Jenna Victoria to the blog today! She's here to share a personal essay inspired by her Christmas novella, War of the Heart. It's a story that's part of the Snow Globe Christmas Collection published by Forget Me Not Romances.

Back cover blurb for War of the Heart: When a vintage snow globe sends Boston dress designer Louise Martin and British B&B owner George Walker back in time to London, December 1940, they race against the clock to reconcile a feud between their families and solve a 75-year-old mystery. As Louise relies on God and on George for guidance, friendship then love, will the future George envisions strangle her own dreams? Will their love survive generations of mistrust, the Blitz and being stranded in wartime 1940, possibly never to return to their former lives?

Jenna Victoria's personal essay:

Thank you, Alexis, for allowing me to "pull up a sleigh" at your blog series, “A Prelude to Christmas”! I've been known to break into Christmas songs any time of the year, maybe it's because my birthday is three days after? There's something eternally hopeful and encouraging about the season.

War of the Heart is both a stand-alone book and part of a six-novella Snow Globe Collection on Kindle. I was quite enthusiastic about writing Louise and George's story, as I was able to feature two of my favorite things: London and snow globes. I specifically chose December, 1940, the first Christmas of WWII in the United Kingdom, as I wanted the setting to help reflect the message of their time-travel journey which is one of hope, perseverance and reliance on God despite circumstances.

I was struck by many things while researching that week in 1940. Londoners (and those in other larger cities in the U.K.) simply carried on. They ate far less due to mandatory rationing, created homemade or re-mended store bought clothing, did without necessities and reused everyday items such as newspaper and scrap so the men fighting on the front could have what they needed. Still, they still had peace and joy, something I focused on in the book.

There were no eight-foot Christmas trees for sale, but three-feet ones easily able to fit into air raid shelters quickly sold out. Christmas lights were banned so enemy aircraft could not see their reflection. Yet the tube (subway stations) repurposed as shelters held festive holiday parties, sing-alongs and appearances by Father Christmas.

This sacrifice was especially poignant that first Christmas, when most fathers and brothers were away at war and it was the Mums and grandparents that relied on their faith and their ingenuity to provide a happy Christmas even as bombs rained on the city. In direct opposite to their situation, they stayed the course, confident in the sovereign government to get them out of the war quickly.

Our faith as Christians is similar to that of Louise and George. At first, we assume our trial or difficulty will pass quickly. We pray for that. We believe in that. And for many, a positive resolution, a miracle, is what occurs. But what about those like the country of Great Britain which was not war-free until May of 1945, who don't receive the answer they have prayed for?

My personal struggle is recurrent breast cancer. We approached my initial treatment plan in 2012 with naive optimism, trusting God that mine would be similar to the normal path followed by 82 percent of women with BC (chemo, surgery and radiation) and then finally, I would be cancer free!

Rather, six weeks after my first tumor was removed, I was newly diagnosed as a triple-negative breast cancer patient as cancer returned in several locations. TNBC is the most aggressive and drug-resistant form of breast cancer which affects less than 20 percent of those diagnosed. Man like myself become metastatic, which is incurable. Four years later, I continue to receive IV chemotherapy every 21 days.

Like Louise and George, I find myself in a place I don't want to be. I want to return to my life before cancer, the same as they wanted to return to modern day London instead of being stuck in wartime England as snow is falling.

As their (and my) journey unfolds, something vitally important occurs. When you place your trust and hope in God, He never fails you. The answer may not be what you longed for or prayed for, but He never, ever leaves you with less. I knew this in my head, at that scary visit after my first biopsy. But, I did not feel it in my heart until much later. I was faithful in trusting God even when I did not have the emotional connection to that trust. I carried on, trusting Him despite my feelings. Now, I have a peace, a contentment, and a joy within my circumstances!

I won't reveal here how (or if) our two lovebirds in War of the Heart return to current day London. But they, like me, embrace the words of the Apostle Paul:

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." ~2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

25 Days of Christmas Stories: Finding Home, a devotional by Lillian Duncan

Welcome Lillian Duncan to the blog today! She's an author who loves to create suspense-filled stories and wrap it up in a message that points people to Jesus Christ.

Today, she's here to share a devotional she wrote about prodigal sons and daughters. It's called "Finding Home."

Enjoy! :)

~*~
Finding Home

A holiday devotional written by Lillian Duncan

My latest release is No Home for the Holidays, a Christmas-themed suspense novella. Christmas and suspense? I love the challenge of finding a way to mix the two together. The gist of the story is about a “prodigal daughter” who wants to go home but knows she will put her family in danger as well as herself if she does.

That got me thinking…Christmas…home…prodigal!

In a way, we’re all prodigals, searching for our home here on earth.

Jesus left his home in heaven to come live among us so that we could go home to live there someday with our Heavenly Father and the rest of the family! Think what a joy-filled experience that will be! As Christians, we don’t have to wait until then to experience God’s joy.

One of my favorite Bible verses is 1 Peter 1:8: "Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy."

WOW! Doesn’t that sound amazing, an inexpressible and glorious joy? Unfortunately, that inexpressible and glorious joy often gets lost in the details of our daily lives, especially during the busyness of Christmas.

We get so focused on the details of Christmas or life that we lose the joy of Christmas. But it doesn’t have to be that way—you may have noticed the word WOW that I used in the previous paragraph. Do you want the WOW back in your life?

Then how about…

W is for Worship. Spending more time worshiping God for who He is will put joy back in your life.

O is for Obey. Jesus said, “if you love me, then you will obey me.” God’s instructions are meant for our good. The more we obey Him, the more peace and joy we’ll experience.

W is for the Word Of God. There is no better way to find inexpressible and glorious joy than to study God’s Word. Life can be tough, but God’s Word will light our path. But first we have to know the Word to use the Word.

Now, a quick word about my latest release: No Home for the Holidays is a Christmas-themed novella. In it, Chloe Sullivan needs a miracle but has given up on getting one. As sad as it is, she’s resigned to the fact that she has to stay in hiding if she wants to remain alive as well as keep her family safe.

Ex-FBI agent turned preacher, Colton Douglas believes in helping others. When Chloe enters his life, he’s sure God has put her in his path for a reason—to help her. And that’s just what he plans to do, whether she likes it or not.

Both Colton and Chloe learn a great deal about themselves and about life as they face death.

At the beginning of this devotion I talked about how we’re all prodigals, searching for our home. Our home is God. He will never turn us away when we are searching for Him. And we should all be searching for him all the time.

So this Christmas season (and the rest of the year) put more WOW in your life. As you do, you’ll feel as if you’ve come home to God. Wishing you a very merry Christmas!

"The Christmas Star Bride" is part of The 12 Brides of Christmas, twelve historical novellas that celebrate the joy of love at the most wonderful time of the year.

Each novella is available for download for only 99 cents.

Now on to the interview about this lovely book! *Words from Alexis are in bold, words by Amanda are not in bold...

Alexis: Tell us about The 12 Brides of Christmas story collection. How did you first hear about it? Who invited you contribute a story? What were your reasons for accepting the invitation?

Amanda: I’ve always loved reading – and writing – Christmas novellas, in part because it’s the season of miracles. For me, that makes the stories extra special, so when my agent told me Barbour was looking for Christmas novellas, I knew I wanted to send them a proposal. I feel blessed to have had my story chosen, because I understand that they received an exceptionally large number of proposals for this particular collection.

What can you tell us about your story, “The Christmas Star Bride,” (book #10 in the collection) without giving away the plot?

Stories of second chances have always appealed to me. That made writing The Christmas Star Bride a delight, since it provided the opportunity to give both my hero and my heroine a second chance. Prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, each of them was close to being married, but the war changed all that. Esther’s fiancĂ© was killed and Jeremy’s fiancĂ©e – well, let’s just say she decided that marriage to him wasn’t in her plan. My heart ached for both Esther and Jeremy, especially since the wounds the war inflicted were slow to heal, but being able to give them a happy ending made me sigh with pleasure.

How did you create the characters for your story? Tell us how you chose their names, decided on their appearance, made their traits and flaws.

The most important thing to me when I created Esther and Jeremy was the fact that they’re older than the typical hero and heroine. I wanted to tell a story of second chances and to show readers that love isn’t only for the very young.

Esther Hathaway is your heroine in “The Christmas Star Bride.” What inspired you when writing her part in the story?

Esther’s a giver. All her life, she’s been the one who’s taken care of others – first her parents, then her orphaned niece. She reminds me of several women I know who put everyone else ahead of themselves. While those women didn’t necessarily find a happily-ever-after, I wanted Esther to have one.

What does Esther love most about her fictional life? What are her unique challenges, hopes and dreams? Does she have any regrets? Explain.

As I mentioned before, Esther’s a giver, but for the first time in her life, she has a home she can call her own, and she’s unwilling to leave it, even to stay with her niece. Her primary regret is that her fiancĂ© was killed during the Civil War, taking her dreams of marriage and children with him.

Jeremy Snyder is the hero of this story, whom Esther hires to paint her niece’s portrait. What is Jeremy’s first impression of Esther? Does it prove to be a lasting impression? Explain.

Poor Jeremy! Though he desperately needs the commission Esther is offering him, he’s reluctant to accept it, because she reminds him of the woman he once loved. But, fortunately for both him and Esther, he’s able to look beyond the surface to see the real Esther.

Tell us about Jeremy as the hero. Describe his looks and share his dreams. What’s his backstory?

Though he’d once thought he’d spend his life as a farmer, the war changed all that. While it took many things from Jeremy, including his dream of marriage and children, it gave him a new dream: painting.

What role does your characters’ faith in God play in this fictional story?

Both Esther and Jeremy’s faith sustains them through the most difficult times of their lives and gives them the strength to face each day.

What’s the moral of the story?

That God’s plans for us are always good. His timing is not ours, but it’s always perfect.

As an author, what do you love most about writing Christmas stories?

I love the fact that, for most of us, this is the happiest time of the year. I also love knowing that for those who least expect it, it can be the season of miracles, a time to find peace and joy. It’s a pleasure to share those aspects of Christmas with readers.

Thanks for the interview, Amanda! Would you like to share any closing thoughts?

I’ve enjoyed our conversation so much, Alexis. Thanks for inviting me to be part of your blog and for introducing readers to my story. I wish you and them the most joyous of Christmases as we celebrate the true reason for the season.

Alexis: Would you please share your elevator pitch for “The Snowbound Bride”?

Davalynn: On the run from a heartless uncle, Arabella Taube steps off the train in Spruce City, Colorado, and hides in a nearby farm wagon. Nate Horne returns to his wagon and heads home to the ranch just as a harsh winter storm sweeps in—stranding his surprise stow-away with the family for Christmas. Despite Ara’s mysterious background, Nate’s mother thinks she is the answer to a prayer and the hope for her son's future.

Arabella is a unique name for your leading lady. Why did you choose it?

My maternal grandmother’s name was Ara and she was German. As I put together the ideas for this novella, I thought what fun it would be to use my grandmother’s name. I extended it to Arabella for the heroine’s given name, but throughout the book she is called Ara.

Paint a picture of Arabella. What does she look like? What or who does she love? What makes her mad? What is she doing this Christmas (talking about your story’s plot)?

Ara has long, near-black hair like my grandmother. She is also a spitfire and not afraid of striking out on her own. This Christmas—because of a blizzard—she’s experiencing a family Christmas like she’s never known before and wondering if a tall, quiet rancher feels the same way about her as she does about him.

Give us insight into your leading man, Nate Horne. What’s his background? What role does he play in this story? What does he like, or not like, about Arabella? What are his strengths and weaknesses?

Nate takes strong and silent to the extreme. His father was killed when Nate was 12, and Uncle Buck, his mother’s brother, came to the Horne Ranch to help out. Nate’s biggest problem is wrangling words as well as he wrangles horses. Ara takes his breath away to the point that most of his sentences are comprised of three words, just not the three words Ara wants to hear.

In what ways do Arabella and Nate impact each other’s lives?

Nate is not exactly what Ara planned to run into on her way to Leadville. Nate always wanted to bring a bride home, but he didn’t figure one would show up in the back of his wagon.

What was your favorite scene to write from “The Snowbound Bride”? Why?

I had the most fun writing the tree-cutting adventure and the snowball fight.

What was your go-to drink or food while on deadline for this story?

Chocolate, of course! And coffee.

What did you enjoy most about creating these characters and setting the scene for “The Snowbound Bride”?

These are simple people with simple dreams. Life is hard, but they find joy in everyday activities and in the context of family and faith.

Why did you write this story?

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I wanted to write a warm, wintry tale of someone who did not have good Christmas memories but discovers love and new beginnings in the arms of a welcoming ranching family.

What do you want readers to remember most about “The Snowbound Bride”?

Our life path is rarely what we think it will be, but we have a constant companion in our Lord. He knows every turn in the road and often takes our breath away with His surprises.

Thanks for the interview, Davalynn! Would you like to share any closing thoughts?

Merry Christmas!
