JOY in the Journey, Discovering your God-sized Dreams

Today, aboard our God-sized Dreams ship, Gindi Vincent has asked us to answer a series of questions regarding her topic of what to do if you do NOT know what your God-sized Dreams are anymore.

Vincent’s questions: What about you? What do you love? What makes you happy? Would you share your story about what to do if you don’t know what your God-sized dream is here in the link up?

I would like to answer Gindi's questions in an open letter.

~*~

Dear Gindi,

My God-sized dream has always been to work as a writer and producer. I want to create and produce work that will inspire people, point them to God and help them to realize their true value and worth.

Along the way to my original God-sized Dreams, other pursuits were born that took me on detours—being a teacher, working as a journalist, hoping to turn my photography skills and love for the digital camera into a full-time photography business—and I’m grateful for every detour God’s blessed me with, yes I say"blessed me with" because at the time, I was deeply troubled because I wanted to reach my destination so badly that I almost forgot the joy is in the journey.

Serving God and reaching people for Jesus Christ makes me very HAPPY, dare I say I even love it more than I love food? And girl, I LOVE GOOD FOOD! But yes, as long as I’m in a capacity of helping people I’m happy, even if I’m not paid a six-figure salary for my work (though I would LOVE that too)!

So my dream job would be using all of my talents for writing, producing, educating and photography in a capacity that serves people in a creative and therapeutic sense.

But to answer your last question, Gindi, on what to do if I did NOT know my God-sized Dream or felt like I had lost the capacity to dream, I will say this—God hears your heart. When you don’t have the words to say or energy to pray and when you feel like our dreams are dead, don’t let those lies fill your head because God still hears your heart. God gave you those dreams for a REASON and a VERY GOOD REASON at that, a mission only YOU can accomplish in this life. So don’t give up, hold on to God’s promises found in His Word (The Holy Bible) such as Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 37:4 and Proverbs 3:5-6, experience the blessing of life day-by-day and watch God lead the way.

Remember, the joy is in the journey! And the DREAM destination is WORK but you will be prepared for it as you allow God to teach you and equip you with what you need to succeed each day in the journey toward your wildest God-sized DREAMS. Sometimes our destination may be a dream you did not know you had deep in your heart. But dear Gindi, GOD KNOWS and will help you reach your destination in His perfect time, so continue to TRUST HIM!

God bless you!

Sincerely,

Alexis

Now here’s a question for my “God is Love” blog readers: They say in this life, you need to find what makes you “come alive” and then do it. I say that’s the same thing as discovering your God-sized Dream! So tell me, what makes you HAPPY and what are you doing about it?

31 Days of Prayer: Because only God knows your heart

Only God knows your heart.

The Bible says "the heart is deceitful above all things" (Jeremiah 17:9). But it also says, "delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). While I cannot explain those two similar yet different promises of God in this one blog post, I do plan to dedicate a future post to those words of wisdom, with the help of a theologian or pastor who can help break it down to simple terms and show you what that means for you today.

But for now, let's talk.

You know how it is when you have someone in your life-- a significant other, family member or trusted friend--with whom you can share everything? And I do mean everything. Well while it's not too smart to share literally everything about yourself with people (Psalm 146:3), it is priceless to be able to confide in someone who will not betray your trust or expose your secrets. Now who would that be? His name is Jesus Christ and He's there for you. Your deepest thoughts, hurts, pains and triumphs can be safely shared with Jesus Christ because He will never let you down or disappoint you. When you cry, Jesus cries. When you hurt, Jesus hurts. When you are happy, Jesus is happy. Yes, He is just that empathetic.

Now sometimes, people say: "Why should I talk to Jesus in prayer when He already knows what I'm thinking or am going to say?" Well, to that, I have a parallel story: People in relationships want to know that their significant other loves them, right? Have you ever seen a couple in love who never ever says "I love you" to each other or never ever does anything to show their loved one that they truly do love them? Someone once said when it comes to love, "Don't trust WORDS, trust ACTIONS." Meaning if someone says they love you but does nothing to prove it true, then chances are they don't mean what they say to you. But oh dear friend, when JESUS says "I love you," he MEANS it. And He proved it-- Jesus Christ died for you (see previous posts) and rose again, returning to heaven to fight for you. That's right. Jesus is your Advocate. He goes before the Father (God) whenever you sin and ask for forgiveness to remind God that He (Jesus) died for you as your substitute. Remember, we deserve eternal death in payment for our sins. But God extended His grace to us through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ in our place because, the Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death but, the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

So who better to share your greatest hopes, your deepest pain, your hidden fears with than the One who loves you beyond the moon and back? Who better to trust? Who better to have a relationship in prayer and devotion? Who better to know as your truest Best Friend? In case you have not already guessed, "JESUS is the answer"! :) And He never runs out of time or is too rushed to listen to you. He is ALWAYS there, available to you.

Let's pray...

Dear God,
Thank You for my Lord, Savior and Truest Friend Jesus Christ! Thank You that He understands me better than anyone else, even the mother who birthed me. Thank You for sending Your Son to save us mere mortals from our sins and give us a chance at eternal life. Help me to become more like You as I journey through this world. Live in me, shine through me and may others desire to know You as their truest friend and Savior as they see what you're doing in my life. You are AWESOME! Help me to share my heart with You and leave all of my concerns in Your capable Hands. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

BOOK REVIEWS :)

Dear blog readers,

Do you love to read? I'm not just talking BLOGS, I'm asking you about BOOKS! :)

Stories are the spice of life! At least I think so! :) Here's why...they transport you from your reality into the author's dream of how the world can be and in the process, they take you on an amazing adventure! Can't afford a vacation? Buy a book and travel anywhere in the world with the author as your tour guide!  Journey through the lives of the characters with a FREE passport to exciting destinations: Paris (FRANCE), Milan (ITALY), Johannesburg (SOUTH AFRICA)...SWEDEN, DENMARK, SWITZERLAND, NEW YORK CITY (U.S.A.)! The possibilities are ENDLESS!

I've always been a reader. I would make my parents and grandparents take me to the library at least once-a-week during the summertime when I was a child and I breezed through series like the Sweet Valley High series and Love Stories (used to buy that brand at the book store with my allowance) and I loved immersing my mind in the pages of books written by my favorite authors like Lurlene McDaniel (author of "Don't Die My Love") and L.M. Montgomery (famous for her series Anne of Green Gables). It is a passion I never quite grew out of-- as an adult, I now work full-time as a writer! My dream to write full-time recently came true and I thank God,  the author of my favorite book ever--The Holy Bible-- for He answers prayer and grants me the desires of my heart (Psalm 37:4).

My passion for the written word is real. And I'd like to share it with you! :)

So without further ado, I gladly introduce to you the newest feature of my blog...book reviews! :)

Coming soon!

Love,

Alexis
