Don't give up on God

Honestly, I believe God led me to these messages I am sharing with you in this post because lately I've been in a place where I have been asking God "What are you doing?" and "Why, God?" But tonight, my questions have been silenced because I've chosen to choose to TRUST GOD instead of ASKING HIM WHY.

I love how Joyce Meyer says in these video talks that God doesn't have to explain Himself to us! He is the CREATOR, we are His CREATION and honestly I believe we're out of place when we constantly ask God to explain his methods of being in control of our lives. When bad things happen, we immediately by default ask questions like, "Where is God?" and "Why did He allow me to go through this?"

But in these messages Joyce Meyer will challenge you to TRUST God through it ALL, no matter what because as the song by Deitrick Haddon says, "He's able" to do wonders! The Bible says in Ephesians 3:20-21, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

Can I get an Hallelujah, AMEN? :)

Enjoy the videos!

Love,

Alexis

BOOK REVIEW: DeVon Franklin, Produced by Faith

Produced by Faith: Enjoy Real Success Without Losing Your True Self. DeVon Franklin, Howard Books, a Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc., New York, 2011, 245 pages, US$14.99. Reviewed by Alexis A. Goring of Columbus, Montana.

DeVon Franklin’s life is a testimony to Proverbs 3:5, 6. And his book is a blueprint to prove that he was “produced by faith.”

“When I thought about the movie business, and I thought about the Academy Awards and the Oscars, it dawned on me that the absolute top prize given out is for Best Picture, and whoever produced the movie is who wins the trophy for Best Picture,” says Franklin. “So I thought about my life, and at the end of my life I would want it to say, ‘produced by faith.’ ”

Franklin, who is also an Adventist preacher, started in the movie business more than a decade ago. He has since worked his way up to vice president of production for Columbia Pictures. He has produced movies such asJumping the BroomPursuit of HappynessSeven Pounds, and The Karate Kid.

“What I have discovered is that there is no more powerful force in the universe than our faith. And if we embrace it, it will actually lead us well beyond anything we can imagine,” he says.

Produced by Faith is divided into two sections, entitled (appropriately) development and production. Franklin delivers on his promise to give readers insight into how faith can help in any career, even in a place where most Adventists dare not go, Hollywood. “Owning your faith, not hiding it, not being ashamed of it, has been the thing that has allowed me to find success,” he says.

Franklin develops and makes films on a daily basis. In his book Franklin challenges readers to look at their life as a movie produced by their faith in God. He teaches readers to discover purpose in life, or in movie terms, “the big idea.” Then he shows readers how to allow God to write their scripts while taking notes and living according to God’s direction and will.

Produced by Faith isn’t all glitz and glamour; Franklin keeps it real, promising that we will go through what he calls “development hell.” But that’s part of the process; you don’t have a good story without conflict.

“Every great story is all about the highs and lows,” he says. “The conflict in the story is what makes the story good. Same with our life—because we don’t have the luxury of being able to look at our life from a script point of view where we can turn the page and see what’s going to happen next.”

After God has taught us valuable life lessons, built our characters, and restored us into whom He’s called us to be, our movie (life) is ready for production. This is the part of the story, Franklin believes, in which our wildest dreams come true and we see that the struggle was worth it.

RISE and SHINE! :) An invite to Bible Bootcamp

Dearest of hearts,

I would like to invite you to a boot camp that will encourage you to strengthen your muscles-- your spiritual muscles!

For the entire month of December, Pastor Paul Graham of Restoration Praise Center (RPC) is hosting what he calls, "Bible Boot camp" and it is designed to point you to Bible truth, encourage you with Biblical solutions to real-world problems and start your day off right as it airs from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. EST!

All are welcome and ALL can benefit for making time to spend with God through this boot camp facilitated by Pastor Graham from the comfort of his own home. And guess what? YOU can experience this Bible boot camp from the comfort of YOUR own home or Wi-fi zone! You don't even have to get all dressed up or even don workout gear! You just have to wake up on time and attend online. :) Now if you struggle with starting your day early or have work obligations, family emergencies or a life situation that prevents you from attending Bible boot camp on time (it airs LIVE), there is hope for you because each episode is stored on the official USTREAM website for RPC Bible Boot camp, for you to view at a time that is most convenient for you. You may go to either the USTREAM website (see link above) or PraizeVision to view the broadcasts live each morning.

So clearly this is a win-win situation! I encourage you all to attend! Here's WHY: I believe that your life will be changed, for the BETTER and you will begin to make sense out of life when things go crazy or there seems to be no hope. HOW do I know? Because I serve a God who made this world, made you and me and every living creature and despite what the news may convey about the (dire, dark and doomsday) state of our planet Earth and no matter how crazy life can get, I've found that I can rest assured on this fact-- God is in control and He will remain in control no matter what-- you are safe when you're resting on the promises of God and trusting in Him. He knows what's best for you and wants to spend time with you.

So if you have not already carved out a time for just you and God to talk in prayer and Bible study each day, I encourage you to please give Bible boot camp a try! Especially if this whole concept seems foreign to you! I believe it will help you as Pastor Graham preaches a mini-sermon, shares inspirational commercials, cartoons, music and encourages you to send your prayer requests to him at the end of each broadcast. Yes, that's right, you can send your prayer requests to the pastor and he will forward your e-mail on to a team based in the church (RPC) who will pray for you! And there is NO LIMIT to how many times you can e-mail him and have the prayer team pray for you!

Again, it's a win-win!

I hope you will take this opportunity to know more about and grow closer to the One True Living GOD who LOVES YOU with ALL HIS HEART!

Be blessed!

Love,

Alexis

DeVon Franklin says "Get Perspective"

Food for thought: "We serve a God who most certainly can move mountains. But sometimes the greater revelations of God are discovered when He doesn’t move the mountain. Instead, He takes our hand and helps us climb up and over impossibilities one step at a time." -- Lysa TerKeurst's Facebook status (12/5/2012). "How does this resonate with you?"

On an UPnote: "Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place." -- Author Unknown.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."-- Deuteronomy 31:6 (New International Version).

Thankful Thursday: The Gift of Life

It's Thursday and I am thankful for the gift of life because God got me through what could have been a much worse car accident. Let me explain: Today, I was driving to different towns within the county for which I cover news as the Editor and a Reporter for the newspaper.

I made it my business to go to most if not all of the towns within the county in order to introduce myself as the new editor and get story ideas from the community and so far, I was doing great. After my fourth visit, I was on my way to a very small town and to get there, you need to take a gravel road. Now I was used to driving at a normal speed on the paved roads and I did not drastically reduce my speed once on the gravel road because it seemed as well-kept as the paved roads and I thought the weather conditions were good-- it was a bright and sunny day, I didn't see mud over the gravel and definitely no ice or snow-- so I thought everything was okay and for the first 10 minutes of driving on the gravel road everything truly was okay until suddenly, for a reason of which I still cannot figure out, my car started swerving, it was mild at first but rapidly accelerated to the point where no matter what I did to try to regain control, it had lost it and before I knew it, I was crashing into a wire fence, my car spun around and came to an abrupt halt.

Now the good news is plenty: 1) I was driving by myself so I didn't have to worry about anyone else getting hurt (2) I did not get hurt (3) The scene of the car wreck was on an old road with farmland on either side of it so it was a lot safer (4) No one else was driving on the road at the time of my accident.

The bad news is, I did not demonstrate  faith in God (apart from screaming "God help me" multiple times as my car was in the process of swerving off the road and crashing). And I say that because as soon as I stepped out of my car and walked around it, inspecting the damages, I knew that this was going to cost more than I could afford to be fixed. So then I started stressing out and crying out to God. My conversation with God in the middle of nowhere (literally) went something like this, "Another car accident? (I got into one back home, before moving to work as the editor of the newspaper). Why God? I just prayed this morning for traveling mercies and no more car accidents and you let THIS happen? What's the point of praying to you to keep me out of car accidents if it's not going to happen?" and "How am I going to pay for this extensive damage? I get paid less than first-year teachers! My budget is already stretched thin! How in the world am I going to afford to get this fixed?" and "What are you doing God? Am I being punished? Did I choose the wrong career? Maybe I should have just studied for a career that was reliable and pays a lot of money! Sure I would be miserable but at least I would have all of my needs and wants taken care of financially!" and "Where are you?" and "Are you listening to me?" "Please send someone to help me" and then when I found out that my phone could not make calls from the middle of nowhere because there was no reception, I really let God have it, "Are you just going to leave me out here?" (it was only a few hours before sunset when this accident happened and I was worried) "Why are you SILENT?!"

Now again, the good news is, God is NOT afraid of HONEST PRAYERS (Hebrews 4:16) in other words, He didn't (and wouldn't) strike me dead for confessing how I was truly feeling at the moment. And while I did not hear God reply to me, about 20 minutes later, a pickup truck was driving toward me and I waved frantically, asking for help. The driver of the pickup truck rolled down his window, I told him my story (the short version) and he turned his truck around and helped me out by using his pliers out of his toolbox (he was a professional plumber) to detach the wires that were tangled beneath and through the ripped bumper of my car. When I started up my car and it still would not move off the road, he got behind the wheel and moved it onto the road for me. He then told me that it seems safe to drive and so I thanked him (profusely), got into my car and started to drive the 1.5 hour trip into the town where I work. But only 10 minutes into the drive, my car started making very weird noises and so there I was demanding that God get me home safely, "Just answer this prayer, would you?" were my specific words. But then, common sense kicked in and I decided five minutes later upon approaching the small town from which I had driven out from toward the gravel road, to park my car in the lot of a nice roadside cafe, went inside the establishment and after introducing myself, asked to use their phone to call my office.

So I called the office and they told me that they received my e-mail (it was the only feature on my phone that worked out there in the middle of nowhere) and sent 911 personnel to help. No sooner than I hung up the phone, a police officer drove into the parking lot. So I went outside, told him the story and he called my towing company. Next a state trooper arrived and asked me questions, filled out paperwork and visited the scene of the accident. While the trooper was away to access the damage to the property in the middle of nowhere, I called my insurance company and talked to an agent who was very professional and very sympathetic. "That must have been scary" she said as I explained the accident. After hearing my story and getting the necessary information, what she told me next made me cry (I had not cried in front of the  people in the cafe, at the accident yes but not around the people sent to help me). What the insurance agent told me was simply a part of her job but I heard God speaking through her words as my mind drew an instant parallel when she said, "I might be silent for a moment but I am right here."
And there it was, my object lesson not just for today's ordeal but for life: God may be silent, but He is still right here, with you.

Ever since moving to the West to work in Journalism, my mom has told me whenever she talks with me over the phone four words which she told me to remember before I flew out here to work, words to say everyday in a prayer. And those words are, "God be with me."

And it made me cry because while I was ranting and raving, stressing out completely, worried sick and demonstrating absolutely no faith in God and His promise to provide for my every need, God was right there, patiently waiting for me to see that no matter what happens in this life and it seems like He is silent, He is right here, with me.

So yes, on this Thursday I am very thankful that God saw fit to continue giving me the gift of life when the car accident could have been much worse. My gratitude runs deep and I pray that my faith grows strong to the point when it is tested, it soars (meaning, I ace the test). :)

My prayer for all of you is that you, if you do not already, will come to realize this
(1) God is REAL
(2) God is LOVE
(3) GOD is HERE WITH YOU.

Love,
Alexis

Introducing Guest Blogger Gerdine Dalambert

Gerdine Dalambert is a friend of mine who I met when visiting WGTS Gateway Fellowship which is an interfaith gathering that introduces people to Jesus Christ and reconnects them to the love of God while teaching them to have love for others. Gerdine has written in a journal since she was 8-year-old however it was not until a few years ago that she decided to write for others in the public sphere. So when I asked Gerdine to write a guest post about being single during the holiday season, to my delight, she agreed!

Without further ado, here is Gerdine’s first guest post for my blog:

Holiday Singles

Written by Gerdine Dalambert

The holiday season is upon us. It is a time of singing Christmas carols, decking the halls, and being around mistletoe
while enjoying great food with friends and family. But being single can prevent your mingle if you know what I am saying.

As a single woman, I have made some assumptions based on my observations during this time of year in my singleness. Singleness is not embraced during the holiday season and it seems that no one is talking about what it is like and how to prevent any side effects if you will, on being a “holiday single”.

Thanksgiving is usually the toughest because if you are away from home, there are many places you can go to enjoy the holiday, but no matter how much fun you try to have, home is missed. There is nothing wrong with taking a moment to remember what things were like at home if they are sweet memories. However, if going to spend Thanksgiving with friends is what will give some gratitude, don’t let it be spoiled by a negative attitude. There is no law that says one cannot be alone to be reflective on Thanksgiving.

If you plan to spend time with family, you have to gear up. We love family but they love us so much that we have to be ready to experience that love. Let me explain: There are family members who love us so much that they think we need to be with a mate in order to be happy on the holidays. The best way to gear up is to be humorous. When Aunt Sally says, “When will you introduce this special person?,” your response can be, “Let’s place an order and see if we can get one by New Year’s.”

Christmas is a great time for singles that go out on dates and have a great time. If you’re looking for a date, it does not have to be Mr. or Mrs. Right. He or she needs to be right for the moment. Go out on your own! Be confident in your singleness! There is nothing more radiant than embracing what you are right now! Exercise is great during this time. You are so bright with goodness, you sparkle from the ornament of your heart. Do something you have never done. The best way to tackle the tantrums of emotions during this time is to stay busy and take time for self. Spend time with Jesus—He is the reason for the season. Can I get an Amen?

The New Year can mean a new you! The status of being single on the holiday means everything is about you. Not in a narcissistic way but indulge, be merry, reflect, and take action! Resolve to be in love with who you are and be open to whatever life has in store for you. Society’s subliminal message that you are not complete in your singleness is false! You are a family, I see it as I am a family all on my own: me, myself, and I. Adding others to my family of me is like adding whip cream to my caramel covered latte of pure sensation. So if you are single during this holiday season, enjoy this time in your life! It is all about love and you deserve to love yourself as you are because you are perfectly you! Happy holidays!

Thankful Thursday: Thanksgiving Gathering

Today I find myself being thankful for having somewhere to go for a Thanksgiving Gathering. Last month, I moved across the country to take a job in Journalism. God gave me my first big break in a career field for which I am passionate and for it, I am SO grateful! :)

Now being so far away from home and just starting work last month means I was not able to fly home to celebrate the holiday with my family at my grandma's house (a tradition ever since I can remember). However, God opened another door for me in terms of fellowship when He sent a community member to my newspaper's office to extend an invitation to me for celebrating the holiday with their family. Happy to have somewhere to go instead of spending this holiday all alone, I accepted their invitation.

Dinner was in the evening and it was amazing! Everything from the appetizers to the sparkling cider, entree and dessert was very good and tasty! The conversation was intriguing, welcoming and light in nature of discussion. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. At the end of the evening, I headed home with a full stomach and warm heart (despite the cold weather)!

So on this Thankful Thursday, the very first in this new series/feature on my blog, I want to thank God for the gift of fellowship over Thanksgiving dinner. It was nice to go to a home while being away from my home to share a meal with people who care.

What are you thankful for?

Introducing Thankful Thursdays

Today in the United States of America, millions of people are sharing dinner with loved ones where turkey is the entree and pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie (my personal favorite) is being served for dessert.

What's the reason? Why it is Thanksgiving, a traditional holiday celebrated in our country since 1863. The story of how the Thanksgiving holiday began in America can be traced back to when the Pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower and the Native American Indians showed the newcomers from England how to cultivate the soil and harvest food for which the Pilgrims were grateful! Former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, in 1863, made Thanksgiving an official holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday of November and we as Americans have been celebrating this holiday of thankfulness ever since!

Now today in 2012, I thought why not start a new feature to my blog called "Thankful Thursday"? Given, this is a title that has been taken already by countless blogs but so since being thankful is something we all should practice, I thought why not add a weekly feature to my blog where for one day every week, I would sit down, reflect on my blessings and write about what I'm thankful for in life?

You see a picture of a thank you card being taken out of an addressed envelope in the upper right hand corner of this post because the idea behind "Thankful Thursday" on my blog is to write a "thank you" note to God. I would love for you to join me in this weekly letter-writing venture! And while God does not have a street address (you cannot literally write a physical letter to God and mail it to his address in Heaven), He does have a heart for humanity and you don't need a postal stamp to mail a letter to Him! All you have to do is to pray and He will hear you and answer your prayers according to His plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11).

So in a sense, Thankful Thursday is about sharing with the blog world your thankfulness! God is good, all the time and He loves to hear your praise!

I hope you will join me on this journey! Here's how it works: every Thursday (starting today), come to my blog, read my post and in the comment section, write your letter to God about what you're thankful for that week. Simple, right?

Now there are long-term effects to your participation in my Thankful Thursday series-- it will change your outlook on life because the more you count your blessings and praise God for what He's done in your life and who He's used to help you, the more you'll come to realize how much He loves you and you'll start to see the silver lining in the clouds and/or storms of life.

Simply as my grandma told me when I was growing up, "Gratitude will change your attitude."

Let's be grateful, together! :)

Love,

Alexis

Book Review: MADE TO CRAVE by Lysa TerKeurst

Lysa TerKeurst, Made to Crave (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2010), 218 pages, US$14.99, reviewed by Alexis A. Goring).

Diets don’t work. But the concepts in Made to Crave will help you achieve the picture of health you desire. According to www.madetocrave.org, “Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman’s desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen.” Written by Lysa TerKeurst, Made to Crave is a book written to help us recognize our deep cravings for food as what they really are—our hearts’ yearning for God.
Made to Crave contains 19 chapters of biblically sound advice. While the target audience appears to be women, men would also benefit from the material contained in this book. After reading Made to Crave, I felt empowered to make a lifestyle change—one founded on my ultimate craving, which is not for food but for God.
Within the first chapter of the book, TerKeurst makes a heart connection with dieters everywhere when she says: “Not once in my life have I ever craved a carrot stick” (p. 12). TerKeurst goes on to say why Made to Crave is useful, describing it as “the missing companion you’ve needed with every healthy eating plan you tried and cried over” (p. 14). Given her own personal struggle with weight and food, TerKeurst can testify to others. She writes: “With Jesus, if we want to gain, we must give up. If we want to be filled, we must deny ourselves. . . . If we want to conquer our cravings, we’ll have to redirect them to God” (p. 16).
According to TerKeurst: “Getting healthy isn’t just about losing weight. It’s not limited to adjusting our diet and hoping for good physical results. It’s about recalibrating our souls so that we want to change—spiritually, physically, and mentally” (p. 16).
Made to Crave achieves its goal of showing readers how to win the battle of the bulge. TerKeurst combines her skill as a noted writer and experience as a woman striving to achieve a picture of health to write a book that speaks to the hearts of women worldwide and provides the tools they need to break free from bondage to their appetites and unhealthy food choices.
After reading Made to Crave, you’ll find it hard not to be convinced that with God, all things are possible.

A beautiful message in song for you

Every true follower of Jesus Christ is a part of His body. How beautiful, the Bible says are the feet of those who bring good news (Romans 10:15)! How beautiful, Twila Paris sings, is the BODY OF CHRIST!

Be encouraged in knowing there is a God who is real, sovereign and in charge of the affairs of this world. He did not create our world and leave it to run itself or sit up high in heaven from a throne and watch us as the popular song by Bette Midler says, "From A Distance." No, no, NO! God is just as much involved in our everyday matters here on Earth as He is in Heaven and He wants you to know that He loves you and He is here for you no matter what!

My prayer is that you will be blessed by this song and that you will if you do not already, come to know the God who loves you with ALL of His HEART. :)

Praying for peace in your life,

Alexis

Encouragement for you :)

Dear Blog Readers,

You were on my mind today and I thought, "What can I do to brighten their day and send light into their night?" And after speaking with one of my friends concerning relationship issues, I remembered what a great resource the stories shared on Bianca Juarez's blog, "In the Name of Love," are for everyone and anyone who is struggling, disappointed, depressed and ready to throw in the towel and call it quits! Bianca has been there and she's emerged victorious and happily married too. :)

So without further ado, here's a true love story that shows how God is in the details and He's willing to write your own true love story if you just let God have the pen and allow Him to author the greatest romance. :)

A WORD for YOU :)

Have you ever heard a word that spoke to you? I mean a word that completely touched on EVERY SINGLE ONE of your issues that you've gone through or thoughts you've pondered lately? I just experienced that today when I watched "The Other Side of Victory" sermon by DeVon Franklin, Senior Vice President of Production for Columbia Pictures, author and preacher. A-mazing! Truly a God-appointment for me! And by "God-appointment" I mean I knew within the first 5 minutes of this Vimeo recording that THIS is the MESSAGE God wants me to hear for the season of life I'm experiencing at this time.

SO powerful is this preaching all based off a Bible passage (Matthew 9:27-33) and so diverse is DeVon's take on tying in practical reality with this Bible story of the two blind men who were healed by Jesus that I KNOW you will be BLESSED when you watch it!

So without further ado, this is for YOU! :)

Introducing Guest Blogger Katie Ganshert

Katie Ganshert is a writer who used to make a living as an elementary school teacher. Given my background in education and desire to make a living as a writer, I instantly connected with Katie's life story upon reading her blog earlier this year. Eventually, I connected with Katie and asked her to write a guest post for my blog. Gratefully, she agreed! Katie is a very talented author whose first book, Wildflowers from Winter, released May 2012 is a wonderful portrayal of how God can work in our lives to bring beauty out of pain.

So without further ado, here is Katie's first guest post for my blog:

Faith and the Writing Journey

Written by Katie Ganshert

I always loved writing as a little girl. Instead of watching TV, I’d curl up in bed and fill notebook after notebook with penciled stories.

I had no idea, at the time, that God was working in my heart long before I ever knew Him. Hindsight is the coolest, because of course now, I can see His hand in my life. I know with absolute assurance that He plants dreams and passions in our hearts for a reason.

My debut novel, Wildflowers from Winter, hit shelves this past May. It was a huge, giant dream come true. And I’ve loved every minute of being a published author. However, I can’t help but look back with fondness on the uncomfortable, sometimes confusing road that led me to this place.

It was a journey that was littered with doubt and deferred hope and excruciating bouts of waiting. I wrote novels and I got rejections from agents and editors and all I could do was get on my knees and surrender my dreams over and over again.

Until something pretty amazing happened.

My prayers changed from Lord, let me be published to Lord, give me more of you. I began to praise God in the midst of the waiting and the rejections. Because both were drawing me closer to Him. And drawing closer to Him is a pretty breathtaking thing.

I’m discovering that this side of publication is no different. I still have dreams. I still have fears. I still have desires and hopes and doubts. Publication is everything like I thought it would be and nothing like I thought it would be. I’m continually having to take my dreams and my fears and my expectations to the foot of the cross and hand them over.

As I travel this journey, I realize more and more that the point isn’t publication or making the best-seller list or winning awards.

The point is obedience and surrender.

It’s learning to trust that if God has put stories in our heart, then all we can do is write them. Write them the best way we know how, then get on our knees and trust Him with the rest. Come what may.

Question for You: Have any dreams or passions in your life strengthened your faith?

Leave your answers to this question in the comment section.

Exciting news for you!

Dear friends,

I have an exciting new feature coming soon to my blog, "God is Love"! :)

The feature is....*drum roll*...GUEST POSTS! :) I am sure most of you who visit blogs on a daily basis are very familiar with guest posts! For those of you who may not be, a guest post is simply when the creator of a blog asks someone they know or admire to be a guest on their blog through writing something for the creator of the blog which is then posted on the creator's blog. So in my case, my blog is, as you can see, "God is Love" and I have invited a few remarkable writers--some that I personally know and some that I admire and met through blog world-- to write a guest post on my blog! And I am blessed to learn that most so far have said "yes"! :) As you can see, I am so excited about this exciting news and I hope you are too!

If you are not excited yet, I'm sure you will be once you start reading the guest posts because these writers you're about to experience are amazing in their own wonderfully unique ways! Writing is their passion and connecting with people through words is what they do best! My writers come from all walks of life-- male, female, married with (or without) kids, single, building (or settled into) their careers, homemakers, you name it, I plan to bring it! :) And I bring it to you with the hope and prayer that their written works will both inspire, encourage and uplift your mind, heart and soul to experience the compassionate heart and character of God who loves you as one of His own children. :)

So stay tuned! :)

Love,

Alexis

And I would like to invite you to set aside 30 minutes a day in which you can spend time with God!

So are you ready to as Pastor Graham says, "Flex your spiritual muscles"? Are you ready to learn more about Jehovah Jireh a.k.a. Jesus Christ as your Provider? If you answered "yes" to any of those questions or even if you said "maybe" or "no," I invite you to tune in for just one session-- just one! And you most likely will be led to viewing more. :) Did I mention that you don't have to be an early riser to attend Bible boot camp? It's true! Artist Spotlight: Tamela Mann

Tamela Mann, simply said, is an inspiration! And I am sharing this song, "Take Me To The King" which is now available online and in stores, to prove it. :)

The song is honest, the message is presented with hard-hitting yet incredibly uplifting honesty and as a Christian, it gives me HOPE because we've all been there when we're so worn out and downright depressed with the hard knocks delivered to us by life BUT even then, we are reminded in the lyrics of this song that there IS a GOD and HE is KING of the UNIVERSE! Even when the world around you feels like it's spinning out of control, know that God is STILL in control of everyone and everything! And He is accessible to us through the power of PRAYER.

So if life has beaten you down, look up and remember God is: 1) REAL (2) just a prayer away.

Approach God's throne of grace boldly so you may find help in your time of need (read Hebrews 4:16).

God bless you!

Love,
Alexis

The 1st of July

Dear readers of my blog, "God is Love",

This post is about YOU! :)

Yes, YOU!

I am writing to let you know that YOU are VALUED, YOU are LOVED, YOU are a CHILD OF GOD! :)

Here's a word for you from the heart of one of my favorite writers, Holley Gerth: "God understands hard times. So when life lets you down, know that He's holding you up and will never let you go. God understands happy times. So when life brings joy, know that He's celebrating with you and sending more blessings your way too. And the best news of all, God understands you-- what you've been through, who you are, who you're becoming. All of life, all of you. There's only One who truly gets it...and He's got you.

God LOVES you, dear heart! :)

So on this first day of July, I hope you will remember that you are held by the same Hands that hold the world. You are safe in God's care. My prayer is that God's love will surround you, His words will comfort you and His heart will lead you home.

God bless you!

Love,

Alexis

Trials make you strong

Amazing story, eh?

What a true message-- "What doesn't kill you makes you STRONGER"! :)

Story behind my learning of this song: My mom showed it to me a literal 5 minutes ago today which is about 1 hour after I shared with her my issues that were making me upset. I find the music video of cancer patients putting up the fight of their life to be a great reminder of how we're all going through something on one level or another and true to the lyrics, if it doesn't kill us, it will make us STRONGER!

So whatever you may be going through, remember God is right there with you. Just reach out to him (in prayer), talk to Him like He's your friend. He's not scared by your honesty nor is He surprised by your thoughts. He knew you before you knew yourself (Jeremiah 1:5)! And He is more than capable of helping you to weather any storm, trial or circumstance that life can throw at you.

Watch the video, dear friends, and be encouraged! :)

Alexis

Sparrow love

Dear friends,

God's eye is on the sparrow and He is watching you!

What does that mean?

It means that if God takes care of the sparrows providing their every meal and need, how much more can you rest assure that He will take care of you providing your rent money, your significant other, your healthy friendships, your dream job, your transportation, your daily blessings such as waking up in the morning to having the peace of mind to sleep at night.

God is good, dear friends, ALL the time, God is GOOD. :) May His blessings fill your heart and uplift your spirits to soar like a sparrow and trust Him like sheep trust their shepherd. May you experience the fullness of His love, his mercies and his endless compassion for you...today, tomorrow and always!

A Glimpse of Heaven

Dear friends,

Today is Good Friday and Christians everywhere are called to remember the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we take heart in knowing that Christ didn't stay dead! No! He rose from the grave on the third day and He (after visiting his disciples to prove that he was alive and encourage them to continue to tell the world about His love and free gift of salvation, an order otherwise known as "The Great Commission") ascended to Heaven and serves as our High Priest and Mediator between God and humanity.
Because of God's love, and Jesus Christ's sacrifice, we ALL have the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ and receive the promise of eternal life.

"The whole point of the Cross is that you're going to fail and you're going to stumble and you're going to feel dirty and you're going to feel awkward. The whole POINT of the Cross of Christ is there be this mighty picture of His love and pursuit of you despite you. So the cross is necessary because of you but it's also the picture we have of just how far God is willing to go because He loves you. You've got to understand God's DEEP and ABOUNDING LOVE for you." -- Excerpt from voice-over in YouTube video "True Love- Phil Wickham (With Matt Chandler & CJ Mahaney).

Dearest child of God, If you remember nothing else in this Easter holiday, may you always remember this simple truth-- GOD LOVES YOU and HE is coming again to put an end to sin with all the damage it causes and usher His faithful ones into eternity.

So on this Easter holiday and always, I pray that you who know Jesus Christ will remain faithful and true to The One GOD who loves you most, more than you could ever imagine...and if you don't know Jesus Christ yet, I pray that you will come to know Him and see firsthand how He is in the very heartbeat of man...May you experience His love, His grace, and His mercies that are new every morning...May you come to know Him as your Lord, Savior and Truest Friend...and may you accept his gift of salvation so that when your life on this earth comes to an end, you have hope that you will see the promise of forever when He comes again in those great clouds of glory to usher His faithful followers into eternity.

God bless you, dear hearts, on Easter and always! :)

Alexis

Showers of Blessings

Dear friends,

Happy first day of APRIL!

Wow, to me it seems like this year is moving forward at record speed!

What do you think? It feels to me like yesterday it was the New Year and now we're nearly mid-year!

Life here on Earth is filled with changes...Mother Nature changes seasons, employees change jobs, children change attitudes and people on fire for Jesus Christ can change the world. :)

Speaking of being on fire for Jesus Christ, I found this beautiful illustration of the song, "No Matter What" on YouTube by (Christian recording artist who is very much on fire for JESUS) Kerrie Roberts and I would like to share it with you!
It speaks to the truth that no matter what changes in this life, God never changes and while people may desert us, He is there for us, "no matter what"! :)

Enjoy and be blessed! :)

Love,

Alexis

The beauty of simplicity and pure passion

Dear friends,

After seeing that video, I'm sure you see why I put it before my written message today. :)

Charlotte and Jonathan exemplify what true friendship means in a world that judges books by the cover and chooses to associate with who and what the world calls beautiful. Only "beautiful" isn't always what's on the outside, TRUE beauty lies within the heart. :)

The Bible says, "People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).

I find it amazing how the audience, by the looks they gave when the camera captured their reaction to seeing Charlotte and Jonathan before they sung, were obviously expecting nothing from the duo because let's be honest, some may think the duo looks, at first glance, like what mean people on a nice day would label "misfits". BUT when they SANG, especially when JONATHAN sung...oh WOW...this time when the camera panned to the audience, they were all in SHOCK, some even CRYING openly and at the last note of the performance, they ALL-- professional panel of judges included-- rose to their feet to offer a much deserved STANDING OVATION to the amazing duo Charlotte and Jonathan. I may not have been in the audience on the reality show Britain's Got Talent to witness this unprecedented performance live but at home via my computer, I was moved to tears. It was so beautiful and so reminiscent of the fact that we should NOT judge! We've all got problems. Nobody is perfect. Everybody has their own burden to carry in this life and you never know what somebody's going through. Above that, you never know that true talent that someone you'd LEAST EXPECT has buried deep inside...a talent that if shared, can change the world. :)
Not a sermon, just a thought. ;)

All the best to you and yours, dear blog readers!

Love,

Alexis

Broken and Restored

Dear friends,

I would like to share a story I wrote that gives you background about me and shows how God can work through any situation that looks dire and turn brokenness into beauty.

My story is called "Broken and Restored" and you can read it here- http://brokengirl.org/2012/02/27/broken-restored-alexis-gorings-broken-girl-story/

I hope my story helps somebody! If that person is you, I'd love to hear how God spoke to you at the place you are in your life now through my experience during a difficult time in my life.

God bless you!!

Live for today

Dear friends,

February 11, 2012 was a sad day for many professional music artists and fans as one of their best performers, Whitney Houston, died tragically at the age of 48. The death of recording artist/actress Whitney Houston sent shock waves around the world.
People who never met her but adored her work and music, felt the deep pain of losing someone who they have always loved. One of those people is me. "Whitney Houston was one of my favorite artists," I found myself telling family and friends. "She's on my list of famous people who I wanted to meet. I hope I meet her in heaven."

It took a message on GodTube to open my eyes to a greater purpose. I'd like to share the video with you then explain what I mean after you've viewed it. Here's the video:

Alive (Natalie Grant) from worshiphousemedia on GodTube.

After viewing this video, I was reminded of the greatest person to ever have lived, walked, breathed and ministered on this Earth-- Jesus Christ is His Name. He's my Lord, Savior, Redeemer and Truest Friend. When life on Earth comes to an end, JESUS is the One I want to meet when He comes again in those great clouds of glory to usher His faithful followers into eternity.

I loved Whitney Houston for her God-given singing voice and artistic talent but I am reminded that it's not the created (Whitney or anyone else I have admired) that I need to be giving praise and adoration to-- it's JESUS Christ, the Creator of Life. At the end of the day, it's JESUS who gives us the peace of mind to sleep and the breath of life to awake each morning, rise up and go about our day. It's JESUS who died for us and was resurrected (on what most people in America like to call "Easter Sunday") in order to serve as our High Priest in Heaven. He is our Mediator between God and humankind. HE is my HERO. And of course, He's at the very top of my list of people I want to meet! :)

My prayer for you is that your hearts will be filled with the love of God through the gift of His Son Jesus Christ and if you haven't already, you will make things right with God. The Bible says "tomorrow is not promised" (Matthew 6:34), so let's make the most of today. :)

God bless you always, dear hearts!

Love,

Alexis

Encouragement for your heart

"If you're wondering if God can use you because your life is not as it should be and your heart is aching, know that your greatest hurt will probably be your greatest ministry." -- Holley Gerth, "Rain On Me".

Sharing the blessing :)

Dear friends,

I was thinking of you today and I thought that I should share a few inspirational stories with you. :)

The first is of a brave, compassionate little girl named Tori Svenson, who reached out to help someone in need, not knowing that she needed help too. God worked behind-the-scenes (in my opinion) to make a dream of Tori's come true during her time of need. See the story here:

The second story is about a youth pastor named Pete Garza who used to run with the wrong crowd until God answered his praying mother's plea and won Pete's heart. Pete gave his life to Jesus Christ and never looked back (except to share his story to help others). The interview featuring Pete's story aired tonight on Breakaway which is a program that airs every Friday night on WGTS 91.9 FM. You can hear it here- http://wgts.org/2012/01/27/breakaway-pete-garza/

I hope and pray that God will move in your life in mighty ways! Let Jesus Christ into your heart and He will transform you from the inside, out. :)

If you need prayer or want to share your story feel free to leave a comment on my blog and I will write to you in response.

God bless you, dear hearts! :)

Love,

Alexis

*Jeremiah 29:11*- "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." :)

Prayer requests and Answered prayers

Dear friends,

A prayer partner gave this great idea to me and I'd love to share it with you!

She told me that a good way to see the progress of my prayers being answered by God is to keep track of it in spaghetti jars. Yes, spaghetti jars! Do I have your attention now? :) Great! Let me explain the process:

First, you get two empty spaghetti jars, wash the jars out in warm water and dish washing soap. Next, you dry out the jars with a towel. I let my two jars drain for 10 minutes with a towel inside. Once you have these beautiful squeaky clean jars dry and clean, you find a permanent marker and use it to write "Prayer Requests" on one jar and then "Answered Prayers" on the other jar. Then, you go to a Microsoft Word document or the notepad feature on your computer or get a pen and paper and write out your prayer requests. If you're using your computer for this part of the process then the next step is to print out the pages filled with your prayer requests. Please note: Make a space between each prayer request. Once everything is printed out, you need to take a pair of scissors and neatly cut out each prayer request (hence the spaces between each written/typed request). Finally, you take the paper strips filled with your prayer requests and place these precious pieces of paper into the "Prayer Requests" jar. Make time at least once-a-week to check your prayer request jars for answered prayers. How often you check it is up to you but make sure to complete this final this step- Each time God answers one of your prayers, take it out of the prayer request jar, make a note on the back of the paper of when (and how) God answered the prayer and place that strip of paper into the "Answered Prayers" jar!

Great idea, eh?

If you plan on taking this idea and using it, I'd love to know how God answers your prayers and how it feels once your "Answered Prayers" jar is filled to the brim! :)

How do you keep track of your prayer requests and answered prayers? I'd love to hear your ideas! Leave a comment. :)

Love,

Alexis
